Since February, I have made a conscious effort to start each day reflecting, goal setting and focusing on gratitude. It’s a practice that I learned from the wonderful Rachel Hollis. She would
Hot Spot of the Week: Village Animal Clinic
To say I am an animal lover might be a bit of an understatement. I have been known to stop on highways to try to entice stray dogs into my car, I spent the first few years of my career working for animal welfare non-profits and have fostered my fair share of fur babies.
Our four-legged, furry friends are a true part of our family and hold a very near and dear place in my heart. So, I don’t think it surprises most people when I search for the best care available for them.
We adopted our dog Lizzie five years ago, from the American Animal Rescue Society, and have loved every minute with our feisty lady. All that we know about her background is, she was found on the west side of Chicago wandering the streets and her fur was so badly matted that she had to be shaved.
For the most part Lizzie has been a healthy, happy girl, until about two years ago when we almost lost her. She had been under the weather for a few days, but we had no idea how serious it was. We had to rush her to the emergency animal hospital, VCA Arboretum View in Downers Grove (they are also AMAZING) where she preceded to spend 4 days and 3 nights there.
After some ultrasounds and blood tests, we found out that she had a severe case of pancreatitis which then put a lot of strain on her liver. But she made it through like a champ and has been doing well ever since.
That changed this past week, she had another flare up. Because of her history and the symptoms she was showing, Dr. Healey tested immediately for pancreatitis. Her quick action to test her, plus hers and Dr. Peck’s recommendation that she come back for the next two days to receive fluids and medication under their watch saved her from a lot of pain and possible complications. When I got her home on Friday night, I could immediately tell she was feeling better, she didn’t wince from the pain, she wanted to play and she even barked at the cats.
I am forever grateful for the care and compassion that the treat Lizzie and all animals with at the Village Animal Clinic. Thank you so much for treating my fur baby like your own!!
